27 follows me. We left from gate 27. Cameron hypothesized that the presence of 27 would give us luck. The plane didn't crash and the hostel was OK and the two Duracells in my camera lasted nine days. He was right.

Trump's plane was on the tarmac.

We got to the hostel and couldn't check in yet, so we went to eat at Tom's Restaurant, AKA Monk's Diner from Seinfeld. Then we went back to the hostel. I took a shower, Cam took a nap and then we went to Times Square.

This is the T-Rex at Toys R Us Times Square.

This is the ferris wheel at Toys R Us Times Square.

The Mach 5 from Speed Racer was at Toys R Us, too.

Central Park.

American Museum of Natural History.

Staten Island Ferry.

Little Italy.

The Hell Yes building. It is a modern art museum.

Empire State.

This shot was my idea!

It was really windy.

I think the MySpace overhead self-shoot is excusable here.

This is a Macy's escalator with an arbitrary 27 on it. Follows. Me. Everywhere.

Cam buys some discounted Boss pants at Macy's. I shoot from the vantage point of some chairs thankfully set up in most of the expensive places Cameron likes to look around in.

Cameron wouldn't let me go in.

Cool building. Dunno what it is. This is the view from Saks Fifth Avenue, I believe.

Cameron is checking the price at Saks before heading down to the Lacoste store.

Shooting from the vantage point of a chair, again.

We went to the Nintendo World Store, too.

This was a big meal. It had lots of choices for sides and one of them was Belgian waffle. Regardless of what I was having, OF COURSE I'm gonna go for the Belgian waffle.

Cruella and I at the Disney Store.

Cameron, much like Charlie when visiting the chocolate factory, looks on in wonder in Bergdorf Goodman.

A three-thousand dollar shot glass. This was one of the least expensive glasses on that platter.

Bergdorf. One of the clerks was whistling the Indiana Jones theme.

The Met. They didn't like us to take pictures inside. We tried, though.

The Guggenheim. It was SO COOL. You weren't allowed to take pictures inside, but, again, anytime I got a chance, I snapped one.

Grand Central.

Royal Tenenbaum bought the house on Archer Avenue in the winter of his thirty-fifth year.

H&M.

Back at the hostel.

Some crazy-looking building.

Cam was adamant we go to Popeye's.

Found the OED in a window somewhere.

Cameron's 'Lacoste Day'. He was wearing a Polo, too.

Trying to make money outside the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater.

Amy Poehler and Jack McBrayer. This was the night we saw Samm Levine from Freaks and Geeks, too. There were some other people SNL there, too.

Across the street from the Mad Magazine offices.

All the stuff Mad has licensed.

A card for robbing ATMs. There is a gun on the back of it.

Living legend Dick DeBartolo showing us around.

These are all Cameron's pictures. I was videotaping the experience.

George Bush holding an issue of Mad Magazine. Incidentally, the '20 Dumbest People' issue. The list happens to include Bush.

The wall of famous people holding Mad Magazine.

Original art.

DON'T BLOCK THE BOX.
Cam and I kept saying this. Every time a cab was in the middle of an intersection: "He's blocking the box!"

The famous Waldorf-Astoria.

Featuring: Rich people scowling at you for taking photographs of the Waldorf-Astoria.

This statue is called 'TAXI!'

Arbitrary tanks of Nitrogen that happened to be on several street corners for no apparent reason. I was like, "Cam, look. Tanks of Nitrogen." And he said, "Are they leaking?" And I listened at the nozzle and it was hissing.

Cam eats a Jolly Rancher at the hostel.

We stumbled upon this by accident on a day when Cameron brought us to almost every GameStop in Manhattan.

Cameron buys some food at McDonalds. We ate here a lot.

Ah, the Hot & Crusty. We thought that this was a terrible name for a place where food is served. Or any business of any kind, really. But we saw several of these all over NY. So I guess they must do well.

Giraffes and I.

The view from the hostel.

Penguin and gray bird feedings. How sweet.
The tiny bird at the end looks adorably grumpy.

Yeah, penguins are great. We had to run in order to get there in time for their feeding.

New York
I really enjoyed your pictures of New York.I'd love to visit myself but am terribly afraid of flying. But if I ever do work up the nerve to actually get on a plane.... I'm going to New York.
Thanks for sharing.

Also, I think the liquid nitrogen tanks are used to keep water out of the phone lines.

i hate your haircut
excellent work. i do, however, find myself wondering why in god's name a man of your age still wears the haircut of a poorly socialized 12 year old. maybe it's time for a new style? other than that, lovely article. i found came here from ihatecrocs.com, which i totally love.Anonymous

Trip to NY, MAD and ...Croc's
Greetings from Portugal!I guess you had a lot of fun on your trip to NY. I enjoyed seeing the photos very much because there's always something new, or that you didn't visit on that city. Haven't been there for a couple of years, now, and seeing these images made me want to go again and again. Lucky you for the MAD adventure!!! Love those "bombs".
And finally... I HATE CROC'S TOO, hahahahahhaha. But... I love the small things you can attach to it ;-)
